Live it, don’t laminate it!!

At the beginning of September, when we took for granted being able to walk with multiple friends (thanks Corona!), we decided that as a group of fit, healthy & (reasonably!) young people, we should be doing more than just the day to day, and try to make a difference.

That’s why we decided to take part in the St Elizabeth Hospice Midnight Walk. As the title suggests, the annual walk is usually a massive group event where thousands of people gather together to do a sponsored late night walk. For obvious reasons (again, thanks Corona!) this wasn’t possible this year and so for one week only starting on the 21st of September, we ditched the McDonalds breakfasts, and lazy lunch breaks and got our FitBits to track our steps. Between us we walked 100km (in addition to our usual daily steps, walks to the coffee machine were not counted!), which is the equivalent of 91 laps from office to the lovely Needham Lake.

In true British style the weather ranged from superbly sunny to wet, wind-swept and muddy, and we left ourselves quite the challenge on the last day, with 35km left to go! But we’re pleased to say that we achieved our goal and raised £230.

In 2019 St Elizabeth Hospice cared for over 3,000 patients and their families, at a whopping cost of £10.5M, of which 75% was raised through the local community. We look forward to some more fundraising soon.

The stats looked like this:

Broken Umbrellas – 2

Engineers lost – 1

Cups of coffee to warm up – 6

Squirrels spotted – 1

Conkers collected – 35

Falls in to Needham Lake – 0

Ducks seen – 670000000
